Today I designed three Memphis style houses, intended to exist together in a row.

Successes
- Successfully mimics the Memphis style. Patterns, colours and shapes are recognisable as Memphis Milano style.
- Three different colour schemes. I adapted the original house form to make different houses by changing the patterns and colours. I am pleased with all three. My peers liked the centre one and said the first one is perhaps too much, and the last one not enough. I agree with the first one being too strongly coloured, but I do like the last one with it's additional random shapes.
- Look good together in a row. The houses work as a set and I think they would look good together in the real world. I envisage them being in a suburban neighbourhood, or on the seafront.
Could do better - Perspective is a little off. It was all guess work and I should have thought about it more carefully. I just started drawing and did not anticipate that the result would be good If I had thought about it more and planned the scale etc. it would look better.
- I did not design the back or sides, for the same reason. This sketch could not be worked from to produce a model because there is only one view of it and no floorplan. If I were to go further with the house design I would need to go back and do this.
- I did not design the interior. With a space so small, I would need to think about how best to exploit the little space there is to create a fully functioning living space.
- I should have thought more about proportion and scale. There are very mismatchd ceiling heights and the scale is dodgy in my drawing.
I like these house designs a lot but will not make them a my final piece for this project. They would be too complex to complete in the time given. I need to practise with architectural model making first.
