£1 SHOP || Cotton Wool

Today I was given an item from a pound shop that I was told I had two weeks to create something with. I was given cotton wool balls. I first of all sketched the cotton wool, whilst thinking about its properties and how I could use it. As I have an interest in prosthetics and make up for stage and film, I thought first about how the wool could be used with latex for this purpose. Its soft, fluffiness would also be well suited to making fashion accessories or soft furnishings. I drew up some initial designs and brainstormed ideas. I feel that I already have some idea of what I might make, but I would like to explore all my options first. I am most taken by the idea of doing some kind of facial prosthetics. As the wool would not be directly on show, I would also like to incorporate some of its properties in my ideas. It is difficult to develop an idea when you are so keen to run with the first idea you have. I am struggling to come up with other ideas and develop my initial one, but hopefully I will get out of this rut. I have just read a comic called WE3 and there is a character called Pirate that I am keen to work on. He is a white pet rabbit that has been taken and roboticised in order to fight alongside other cyborg animals. He has his head on show, but the rest of his body has been covered in armour and machinery. It is quite a striking image. I would like to adapt his character for a stage production, using prosthetics and costume to turn a person into Pirate. I decided on this character as his white fluffy appearance incorporates the properties of cotton wool as well as merely using it in the prosthetics.
